
SOUTHGATE: Athletic director wins unsung hero award

SOUTHGATE — An unsung heroine is being recognized at a school in the city Ruth Kemp, with the Southgate Adult and Community Education’s Asher School program, is the first recipient of the National Association of Sports and Physical Education Unsung Hero Award. Kemp is the athletic director and an academic adviser and teacher. She will accept the award in Indianapolis in March.
This year's final four was held at Grand Blanc School on March 13th. The event resulted in some very exciting, close games at all levels. The results are as follows:
Class A Mount Morris-Champs
Flint Mott-Runner up
Class B Allen Park-Champs
Discovery-Runner up
Class C Downriver-Champs
Lakeside Academy-Runner up
The tournament was well run by Gary Goetzinger from Grand Blanc.
This year's summer conference will again be held at the MacMullan Conference Center at Higgins Lake on August 10-12. Topics to be discussed will be a recap of the past year's events and planning for the new school year. This is also an opportunity to discuss rule changes and other issues which are important to MAAA members. All attendees will also receive a MAAA hoodie.
